Paris s’éveille, originally uploaded by gadl.

My daughter has been living in Paris since September and when I saw this image I somehow felt as though the distance between us had collapsed. This picture is actually made up of 16 pictures in an “equirectangular panorama” and then sterographically projected. Wild! Space and time encapsulated.

Dualing blogs

March 12, 2008 at 12:48 am (Uncategorized) (, , )

I am maintaing two separate blogs for the OCL Web Things Challenge more as an exercise in coordination and comparison than bravado.  I have used blogger before so my adventure with WordPress is new and fresh.  I really like this layout.  It creates a very different mood than my Blogger blog.

23 things I will finish before June

March 8, 2008 at 3:21 pm (Uncategorized) (, , )

I love learning new skills, and since my employer and industry nurture lifelong learners I am taking up their challenge based on Charlotte/Mecklenburg Library’s learning 2.0 program for its staff to complete 23 things.  The goal: understand and use the features of web 2.0.  The reward? Free mp3 player AND more importantly the knowledge and skills and the confidence to stay current in my field.  I have completed the 1st 4 things

19 more to go

I will say that the most “challenging” aspect thus far is the completion of the “Learning Contract” which is part of thing #2–Lifelong Learners tutorial–I can say that of the seven and a half habits of lifelong learners the most difficult is

Habit #1 Visualize the end

Why  is that? well i have a hard time actually visualizing the steps it takes to get somewhere and I also am not always clear about what the end will look like so perhaps I will start with the steps first since those have been provided in part by the design of the challenge.

  1. login daily to the challenge blog for updates
  2. consult my webthings guru (one of the webthings committee members) for technical questions
  3. don’t fall behind and post regularly
  4. talk with my immediate colleagues
